Havana, November 17 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the students on their International Day and highlighted the sector's contributions to the country.

On Twitter, the president referred to an article by Granma newspaper that recognizes the new generations' efforts in the face of the impact on education, the economic blockade's effects, and the Covid-19.

"Congratulations to all those who study, which is the noblest, challenging, and enriching task in life,' wrote the head of state.

According to the Cuban newspaper, the Caribbean country dedicated 23.7 percent of its 2020 budget to education despite the hostile U.S. policy and the pandemic's effects.

Only the effects of the economic blockade on the sector, between April 2019 and March 2020, are estimated at 21,226,000 dollars, which translates into shortages that limited the teaching and learning process at different educational levels, it adds.
