Havana, Mar 4 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel received this Friday the top leader of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, who is on a working visit to Havana.

Thomas Bach presented the IOC Gold Medal to the head of state for his support of the world Olympic movement.

 

The president of the International Olympic Committee, and other high-level sports directives, arrived in Havana on Thursday to meet with representatives of the local Olympic Committee and will open new sports facilities.

The visitors were welcomed in Havana by Cuban deputy prime minister Jorge Luis Perdomo and by the President of the Cuban Sports Institute Osvaldo Vento. Also present were local sports executives and outstanding athletes.

The German lawyer, who is also the ninth president of the international entity, inaugurated a multi-purpose sports hall in Havana's Sports City Coliseum, met with athletes and directors, and took part in an extraordinary meeting of the Cuban Olympic Committee's executive, on his first day of work in Havana.
