Cuba works on new alternatives to issue document legalization

Havana, May 11 (RHC) The general director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad, Ernesto Soberón, reported on Twitter that an area was inaugurated in the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 17 to deal with the exponential and sustained increase over time in requests for legalization.

This way, the number of workers in charge of the document legalization office was increased.

He stressed that the legalization process has not stopped and will not stop in the future, and reiterated that the processing of documents can only be carried out by law firms accredited to the Foreign Ministry.

He alerted citizens that any offer related to "supposed procedures carried out by people outside the aforementioned law firms, mediating a payment for this service", is an attempted scam.

The official invited those interested in the status of their process to consult the website: legalizaciones.minrex.gob.cu, to communicate by phone 78310057, as well as to use the email daccre-poblacion@minrex.gob.cu.

Soberón recently declared that in 2022 a record number of documents processed was reached, and in the first four months of this year those processed in the same period of previous years were exponentially exceeded. For this reason, processing capacities were expanded and measures such as prior appointment requests, electronic payment and home delivery were implemented.

Lilia María Hernández, president of the National Organization of Collective Law Firms, denied rumors that were circulating on social networks about an alleged stoppage in the receipt of document legalization procedures.

Hernández announced that one of the biggest demands of Cuban citizens is the legalization of registration documents to present before the Spanish embassy, within the framework of the entry into force of the Law of Democratic Memory or the so-called Law of Grandchildren.

The document legalization service is the recognition of the signature of the official authorized to exercise said legal action, who certifies that the document in question was issued and followed the procedure as established by law. (Source: Prensa Latina)
