French Development Agency promotes projects in Cuba

Havana, May 15 (RHC) The French Development Agency (AFD) accompanies Cuba in projects of economic and social scope at the request of the island's government.

Water, sanitation, health, energy and transportation are among the cooperation areas.

Since 2016, AFD has been working in Cuba by mandate of the French government, based on local interests that encompass the so-called green transition, that is, initiatives with the vision of fighting climate change, and others of socioeconomic benefit.

According to director Alain Humen, the projects are progressing at various levels of execution, and in addition to the funds from the French State, the organization involves resources from the European Union based on their financing mechanisms.

One of these actions has to do with expanding the capacity to produce the meningitis vaccine at the Finlay Institute, for the benefit of the Cuban population and African countries, where the distribution will be the responsibility of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

In this regard, Humen highlighted a financing agreed in 2021 for five years and more than 30 million euros, with eight million contributed by the European Union. (Source: Prensa Latina)
