MEP advocates full application of the European Union-Cuba agreement

Havana, May 24 (RHC) The Portuguese MEP Sandra Pereira advocated this Wednesday, in Brussels, Belgium, for full implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba, a mechanism she considered the basis for a respectful and balanced relationship.

For the parliamentarian, the Agreement signed in 2016 is of great importance, since in addition to representing the advances in the ties between the island and the member states of the bloc, it contributed to the end of the Common Position, of 1996, through which the European Union was subordinated to the US government's anti-Cuban crusade.

In a video message circulated on social networks, Pereira pointed out that this position constituted a clear form of siege, pressure, attack and blackmail against a sovereign country and a free people to decide their destiny.

She stressed that although the full application of the European Union-Cuba agreement is urgent, even more urgent is the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation.

Next Friday, Cuba and the European Union will hold their third Joint Council in Havana, a forum that will be chaired by the host foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, and the high representative of the community bloc for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The meeting will allow the parties to evaluate the level of implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement, which began to be provisionally implemented at the end of 2017. (Source: Prensa Latina)
