Cuba invites the president of Sri Lanka to the Summit

 

Havana, Aug 17 (RHC) The President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wikremesinghe, received the invitation to participate in the Summit of the G77 plus China that will take place in Cuba next September.

During a meeting, the ambassador of Havana Andrés Marcelo González delivered to the Sri Lankan president the letter with the summons of the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who leads the G77 this year.

The upcoming event in the Caribbean nation, which will take place on September 15 and 16, will have as the central theme of the debates Current development challenges: Role of science, technology and innovation.

The G77 plus China, founded in 1964 within the Non-Aligned Movement, is a coalition of 134 countries to promote the collective economic interests of its members and create enhanced joint bargaining power at the UN.

The group has enormous challenges for the development of their nations, which together represent 80 percent of the world population and more than two thirds of the UN membership, Cuban authorities specified. (Source: PL)
