Cuba attends the Assembly of the Environmental Fund in Canada

Havana, Aug 22 (RHC) A Cuban delegation participates in the Seventh Assembly of the Global Environment Facility that is in session from this Tuesday in Vancouver.

As reported by the island's diplomatic delegation in Canada, Cuban officials will attend high-level meetings and side events, and will reaffirm Cuba's position on environmental matters.

The delegation is made up of Adianez Taboada, Vice Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment; Lourdes Coya, from the General Directorate of that ministerial entity; and Aileen Carmenaty Sánchez, third secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Canada.

The event, which is attended by leaders from 185 countries, aims at carrying out a critical assessment of the objectives established in the matter until 2030, in order to eliminate pollution and the loss of nature, combat climate change and promote conservation inclusive and locally directed.

During the meeting, the launch of the World Framework Fund for Biodiversity is expected, a new source of financing to protect species and ecosystems throughout the world.

The Assembly will bring together ministers, government officials, business leaders, environmentalists, heads of international organizations and environmental conventions together with representatives of youth groups, representatives of civil society and indigenous peoples, to discuss solutions that contribute to a healthy planet.
