Ministers of Health of Cuba and South Africa strengthen cooperation

Havana, Aug 25 (RHC) The Ministers of Public Health of Cuba, José Ángel Portal Miranda, and of South Africa, Mathume Joseph Phaahla, met this Thursday in Johannesburg, in the context of the Brics Summit.

At the meeting, they discussed and evaluated the results of cooperation in the sector between both countries. The two ministers agreed to diversify ties in the field of health and promote the introduction of Cuban biopharmaceutical products in the African nation.

Portal Miranda and Joseph Phaahla proudly recalled the historic milestone that occurred in February 1996, when the island's first health collaborators arrived in South Africa, giving life to the agreement between Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) and Nelson Mandela (1918- 2013).

The Cuban minister affirmed that the meeting was an important step to honor the legacy of the two leaders who promoted collaboration and equality in the field of health. (Source: Cubadebate)
