Cuba mourns victims of fire in Irak

 

Havana, Sept 27 (RHC) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, sent condolences this Wednesday to the people and Government of the Republic of Irak for the fatalities left by a fire that occurred during a wedding in the northern province of Nineveh.

In his X account, the Cuban minister expressed sent his condolences to the family and friends of the 114 deceased, and wished a speedy recovery to the more than 200 injured.

Local media reported that the incident occurred due to the use of fireworks, candles and other materials in the celebration.

The Government of Iraq declared three days of national mourning due to the tragedy, and a week in the province where the events occurred.

Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al Shammari ordered the creation of an investigative committee to clarify the facts. The official announced the issuance of arrest warrants against four of the owners of the premises, whom they accuse of not complying with minimum construction standards. (Source: ACN)
