Cambodian Prime Minister will strengthen historic ties with Cuba

Havana, Oct 4 (RHC) The new Prime Minister Hun Manet today ratified his willingness to strengthen the historic ties between Cambodia and Cuba, and fulfill the agreements and consensus reached in 2022 with the exchange of high-level visits.

Hun spoke in this sense when receiving the Cuban ambassador Liurka Rodríguez at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh. During the dialogue, the Cambodian head of Government and the Cuban diplomat reviewed the main milestones of bilateral ties, with emphasis on the progress made in cooperation in the sectors of health, sports, culture, education and particularly in agriculture.

The prime minister also reiterated the invariable position of the Cambodian Government against the US economic, financial and commercial blockade against the Caribbean nation and assured that this support will be maintained.

He also expressed that Phnom Penh will continue to advocate for the exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral list of State sponsors of terrorism drawn up by the North American government.

The Cuban ambassador, for her part, thanked the countless expressions of solidarity and support offered by Cambodia to her country in the defense of noble causes, and ratified the will to strengthen relations between two geographically distant countries but with common objectives of peace and progress.

Over the course of 2022, Cambodia and Cuba developed an intense bilateral agenda, with exchanges of visits by their heads of government and the signing of new cooperation agreements, among other actions.

Cambodia and Cuba established diplomatic relations on April 15, 1960 and both countries, active members of the Non-Aligned movement, have developed bilateral dialogue at the highest level. (Source: PL)
