Havana, November 18 (RHC)-- Cuba reported heavy and intense rains in the eastern region during the last 24 hours, according to reports sent today by the Institute of Meteorology -Insmet.

Insmet noted the occurrence of numerous showers, rains and thunderstorms in that area of the Cuban archipelago, which became heavy and intense in some localities.

The network of meteorological stations and rain gauges of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources showed significant accumulations of more than 50 millimeters in 44 localities, some of them with more than 100 millimeters.

These precipitations are linked to the instability conditions generated by an area of low pressure that transited over the eastern region of Cuba, in interaction with a frontal trough extended over the Bahamas.

During the next few hours, the area of unstable weather will be moving eastward, gradually moving away from the Caribbean country, the specialists indicated.

The existence of moderate humidity values in the area and the warming of the day will encourage some showers and downpours in eastern Cuba, which may become heavy in some localities.

Taking into account the rains occurred in previous days, as well as the saturation of soils and the state of reservoirs, authorities pay attention to rainfall and the national hydrological situation. (Source: Prensa Latina).
