Cuba mourns deaths due to volcano eruption in Indonesia

The Marapi volcano is the most active on the island of Sumatra, in Indonesia

 

Havana, Dec 6 (RHC) Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez today lamented the loss of human life caused by the eruption of the Marapi volcano, on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.

In his X account, the minister conveyed condolences to the people and government of Indonesia, as well as to the deceased’s friends and families.

According to press reports, the authorities of the Asian country found the bodies of 22 victims and continue the search for another missing mountaineer. The deceased hikers were found near the crater of Mount Marapi on the island of Sumatra, which last Sunday had sent up a three thousand meter column of smoke.

Marapi, 2,891 meters high, is the most active on the island of Sumatra. Indonesia is home to more than 400 volcanoes, of which around 130 are still active and 65 are dangerous. (Source: PL)
