Havana, February 2 (RHC) -- Faced with the challenges of the present, there is an urgent need for a Martí that reaches everyone and that everyone can make their own, human, profound; without slogans. It is an imponderable task to merge that deep feeling of "my Martí" with the understanding of his thought, because culture and patriotic action go hand in hand.

The national and international Day for the 130th anniversary of José Martí's fall in combat, which for two years -from January 28, 2024 to January 28, 2026- will be promoted by the Office of the Martiano Program, all the Martian institutions in Cuba and the José Martí Project of International Solidarity, to "approach the roots of Cuban thought, as one of the main sources of the Martian cosmovision that serves as a basis and guide for the Cuban social project", responds to such purposes.

Under the slogan Facing the Sun, the initiative is characterized by its plurality, since it intends to unite in a single strategy the diversity of activities associated with the Apostle in Cuba and the world, explained Dr. Eduardo Torres Cuevas, director of the Martiano Program Office, at a press conference.

Among the activities planned for 2025 are the vi International Conference for the Balance of the World, and the inauguration of the patriotic cultural complex to the National Hero in Dos Ríos, which will expand the existing monument there, and whose civil works should be completed by May 19 of this year. Also, the development of the route from Céspedes to Martí: from La Demajagua to Dos Ríos.

For the upcoming Book Fair, there will be milestones related to this broad program, including the presentations of the enlarged edition of The Golden Age, the digital library Patria Libros online, and volumes 30 and 31 of the critical edition of the Complete Works of Martí. In addition, the Páginas Escogidas (Chosen Pages), an edition that has been published mainly for young people, has been added.

According to Torres Cuevas, this selection of essential texts of the Apostle, in two volumes, by Roberto Fernandez Retamar, includes a valuable introductory essay by the latter. It also contains keys for the study of the collected works, as it is intended to be the basis for the formation of the nearly one thousand Marti's clubs in the country.Other aspects highlighted were the national strategy for the revitalization of Marti's forests, gardens and orchards, some of which have turned abandoned and harmful spaces into areas of recreation and communion with nature (Source: Granma).
