Debate in Cuba on international economic order

Havana, April 29 (RHC) Politicians, academics and experts from several countries will debate in Cuba on global imbalances and the need for a New International Economic Order (NIEO).

Convened by the Progressive International and the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, the Congress will be the second of its kind in Havana, after the one held in January 2023 hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It will take place this Monday and Tuesday at the National Capitol, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the approval by the United Nations General Assembly of the declaration and program of action on the establishment of the NOEI.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the forum has the purpose of promoting dialogue around the problems that hinder development and world peace, as a consequence of an unbalanced international economic, political, scientific-technological and military order with preponderances hegemonic.

In its final declaration, the first Congress noted in January 2023 that the current vision of the NIEO can only be realized through collective action from the South and the formation of new and alternative institutions to share critical technology, address sovereign debt, boost financing of development, and face future pandemics together.
