Cuba elects governors and vice-governors in four provinces

Havana, May 4 (RHC)-- Cuba elects governors and vice-governors this Saturday in four provinces whose positions were vacant and the results of the scrutiny will be announced this afternoon by the National Electoral Commission (CEN), authorized sources reported.

According to details from the electoral body, the vote will take place at 9:00, local time, in the western province of Matanzas, the central provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos, and the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

The official data of the scrutiny will be announced at 3:00 p.m., local time, this Saturday, in a press conference from the CEN, the organization itself announced.

This electoral process was approved on April 5 by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba in compliance with the provisions of the Magna Carta and Law No. 127, Electoral Law, of July 13, 2019.

In accordance with this last legal body, the election of the provincial governor and vice-governor is held on the same day and time throughout the national territory, on the date determined by the Council of State.

Through agreement No. 166-X of that body, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic No. 19 (extraordinary) of 2024, deputies were appointed to, together with the president of the corresponding Municipal Electoral Council, preside over the acts of vote.

Likewise, the highest management body of the Cuban State also designated the reserve of these deputies, in case any of them are unable to fulfill the assigned responsibility.

The president of the corresponding Municipal Electoral Council and the deputy designated for this purpose by the Council of State preside over the voting events.

In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic, in its articles 175 and 180, the provincial governor and vice-governor are elected by the delegates to the corresponding Municipal Assemblies of Popular Power, at the proposal of the President of the Republic, for a period of five years. .
