Nine High Temperature Records Set in Cuba During October

Havana, November 7 (RHC-ACN), -- During the month of October, nine records of maximum monthly temperature were established in different parts of Cuba, according to the Climate Centre of the Cuban Meteorology Institute.

Records were set in the municipalities of Bahia Honda, with 34.9 degrees Celsius; Bainoa, 33.6; Union de Reyes, 35.3; Playa Giron, 34.0; Trinidad, 35.7; Santa Cruz del Sur, 34.8; Contramaestre, 36.0, Gran Piedra, 27.8, and Velasco, 35.8.

In October the national average temperature stood at 26.3 Celsius degrees, 0.3 degrees above the historical average; the maximum average reached 31.3, one degree above normal; and the low average was of 21.7, matching the historical average.

Similarly, a low temperature record took place in the tenth month of the year in Pinares de Mayari, where the thermometer marked 13.1 degrees Celsius in the early morning of the 7th.

The hurricane activity was also the highest of the season during this month, recording the formation of three tropical storms called Fay, Gonzalo and Hanna, of which the first two reached hurricane status.

Depending on the formation of tropical storms in November, this season could be the calmest one since 1998, as only eight of these events have been reported to date, one less than the annual average.
