MORE BLOCKADE > MORE SOLIDARITY

The blockade against the Republic of Cuba has lasted 63 uninterrupted years. Perhaps this survival has made it part of the landscape that the international community annually condemns at the UN, in the face of the persistent indifference of the United States, a country focused on a clear objective: to seize the island and control its destiny, to defeat its socialist project and transform it into a capitalist economy subordinated to its interests, as it was before the Revolution.

On June 30, the Donald Trump administration reissued its Presidential Security Memorandum of June 16, 2017, issued at the beginning of his first term.  From that moment on, he announced his aggressive foreign policy conduct, pursuing general hegemonic purposes, ignoring the principles of international law and aimed, in the case of Cuba, at breaking its sovereign political will. His policy is that of a reinforced blockade.

The new Memorandum maintains the clear spirit of Lester Mallory's internal memorandum of April 6, 1960, in which he proposed "achieving the greatest possible advances in denying money and supplies to Cuba, reducing monetary and real wages, causing hunger, desperation, and the overthrow of the government."  Trump is deepening this criminal policy, aiming to hit all sectors of Cuban society even more severely: tourism, healthcare, immigration processes, cultural, academic, and scientific exchanges, and access to technology.  An absolute ban on Americans traveling to the island, persecution of fuel supplies (remember that the Cuban airline had to stop flying to Argentina for this reason), obstruction of Cubans sending remittances to their families, measures against third countries that use Cuban doctors' health services to treat their populations, pressure on financial and commercial entities around the world to cease their relations, promoting lawsuits in U.S. courts against investors in Cuba, inclusion of the country on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and more.

This fierce intensification of the blockade seeks the suffocation and surrender of the rebel island.

The Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity, Argentina Chapter, wishes to express its solidarity with the heroic Cuban people and government and condemns the reinforcement of the policy of interference and destabilizing harassment in which the current government of President Milei has become complicit.  The Redh is confident that it represents the majority of the Argentine people, who on countless occasions have expressed their brotherhood with the Republic of Cuba at all levels of national life.  It also believes that this attack seeks to weaken Cuba's role and its active role in our continent's regional integration schemes.

CELAC is hurting the empire, and the proclamation of Latin America as a Zone of Peace resonates today more than ever in the voices and will of our peoples.  This is another immense reason to condemn this new violation of International Law and the manifest cruelty of actions that already constitute genocide.
