Cuba Honors Juan Farjardo Vega: “The Last Mambi”

Havana, August 3 (RHC)-- Young Cubans, combatants and people in general paid tribute to Juan Fajardo Vega, known as “The Last Mambi, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his death – on August 2, 1990.

In a political and military ceremony yesterday at the mausoleum in El Cacahual, near Havana, where his mortal remains rest, his outstanding work for the total independence of Cuba was recalled, first as a Mambí soldier and later as an active supporter of the Rebel Army in the Mario Muñoz Monroy Third Eastern Front.

Juan Farjardo Vegas's efforts were recognized, including his example for new generations as a symbol of the best patriotic traditions of the Cuban people. His firm stand against attempts by neo-colonial governments to destroy popular aspirations was also praised.
