Havana, October 22 (RHC) --Musicians from Cuba, Brazil, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland will participate in the 5th Mozart-Havana Festival, according to its general director, pianist Ulises Hernández.

Hernández added that the gathering will celebrate 500 years of the Cuban capital and pay tribute to the city’s historian, Eusebio Leal. He said that the opening will be at Havana’s Grand Theater Alicia Alonso with a novel Cuban version of Mozart's opera ‘La Clemencia de Tito’ (Tito’s Mercy). José Antonio Méndez and Carlos Díaz are the musical and artistic directors respectively. This year’s schedule includes more works by Cuban composers and the event will be extended to the western city of Matanzas. Havana’s Cathedral will host the closing concert on November 2, with the pieces Nocturno de Enero by musician Carlos Fariñas, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Robert Schumann’s Spring Symphony.
