Havana (RHC) - The annual gala of the Cuban wrestling will honor from this year on, the prestigious coach Pedro Val Bangueiras.

The Pedro Val in Memóriam Wrestling Gala will be the oficial name of the event from the upcoming edition, scheduled for Saturday, December 7 at the Coliseum of the Ciudad Deportiva in Havana, starting at 11:00 am.

The Gala celebrates the Day of the Cuban Wrestling, December 9, as an evocation of the unforgettable victory of the Cuban Greco-Roman Wrestling team, under the command of Pedro Val, in the Patras World Championship 2001, in Greece. That was the first time the USSR or Russia were defeated in this type of events.

A postmortem recognition to Val, a minute of silence as a reminder of the recently passing of Gustavo Rollé, who is consider the father of the Cuban Wrestling; the award ceremony for the best wrestlers of the year and 15 fights of the three styles make up the program of the event.

Several of the main athletes of Cuba will not be able to attend this time, as they are out in contracts in Germany or recovering here from injuries and illnesses.

In such a way, the main courses seem to be in the duels of Free-Style wrestlers Reineris Salas and Yonger Bastidas (97 kg); Geandry Garzón against Jorge Despaigne (74 kg) and Yurieski Torreblanca versus Lázaro Hernández (86 kg).

among women, the the bout between Lilianet Duanes and Yusneylis Guzmán (50 kg) stands out again, and among Greco-Romans the confrontation between Ariel Fiss and Yosvany Peña (77 kg) promises to be one of the bests.
