Havana, July 8 (RHC) - Santiago de Cuba “swept” the competition and retained its title in the 2025 National Youth Wrestling Championship, held in Villa Clara, with 85 points.
As confirmed by Manuel Rodríguez, methodologist of the national commission, when the three styles were added together, Greco-Roman and freestyle for men, and freestyle for women, the Santiago team left Ciego de Ávila (59) and Havana (54), occupying second and third place respectively, far behind.
The easterners won a total of 17 medals, including 12 gold, four silver, and one bronze. In addition, they led in Greco-Roman (4-3-0) and freestyle for men (5-0-1), while taking second place in freestyle for women (3-1-0).
Rodríguez explained that the Most Outstanding Wrestler award went to Vladimir Vila from Havana, who won all seven of his matches: four by fall and three by technical superiority. He scored 51 points and did not concede any.
