San Salvador, June 2 (NNN-RHC) -- As a special envoy on behalf of Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou, Premier Jiang Yi-huah congratulated El Salvador President, Sanchez Ceren, on his inauguration Sunday, a move the government believes will strengthen ties with the Central American ally.

Before the inauguration ceremony, Jiang met with Sanchez and expressed hope that his presence at the inauguration will bolster cooperation between the two countries.

Sanchez told Jiang that the friendship between the Republic of China and El Salvador remains solid.

Jiang received a warm welcome at the inauguration ceremony in the capital, San Salvador, which was attended by many foreign guests, including Costa Rica President, Luis Guillermo Solís, and Dominican Republic President, Danilo Medina.

The visit is Jiang's first overseas trip since he took office in February 2013. He arrived in San Salvador Saturday and was scheduled to leave the following evening, making a stopover in Los Angeles on his way back to Taiwan.

Jiang is scheduled to return to Taiwan Wednesday, according to the Executive Yuan.
