Havana, March 6 (RHC) -– Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reiterated his country's position against recent unrest stirred up by right-wing forces in Venezuela and Ukraine.
In a statements to reporters on Thursday in Havana, Rodriguez expressed Cuba's unwavering support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the government he leads and the people of that sister South American nation.
After rejecting the forceful overthrow of legitimate governments, the head of Cuban diplomacy called for an end to foreign interference in the Ukrainian crisis.
In this sense, Cuba's foreign minister lashed out at the subversive methods under the concept of unconventional warfare utilized by successive U.S. administrations to destabilize foreign governments, citing as recent examples the events in Venezuela and Ukraine.
Concerning another issue, the island's foreign minister welcomed the European Union foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton's proposal of February 10th to open negotiations with the European bloc on normalizing ties after a decade of differences and sanctions.
Bruno Rodriguez said the negotiations "mean the end of the European Union's unilateral policies on Cuba." He noted that the EU ambassador to Havana, Herman Portocarrero, has been notified of the Cuban decision to enter negotiations.
"On the basis of equality and mutual respect, Cuba is completely willing to discuss any topic, including human rights, of which we have many concerns about what is happening in several European countries.”
