Havana, April 4 (RHC) – Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel received his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.  The president of Ghana is on an official visit to the island until Thursday, April 5.

Before the meeting, the African leader paid tribute to Cuban National Hero José Martí at the monument erected in his honor in Havana's Plaza de la Revolución.

Diaz-Canel highlighted the strong ties which unite both countries, noting that Ghana was the first sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Akufo-Addo is also meeting with the President of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, and delivering a keynote speech at the University of Havana.

The African leader's visit is taking place in the context of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cuba and Ghana, marked by ongoing collaboration in sectors such as health, education, agriculture and sports.
