Santiago de Cuba, October 10 (RHC)-- The Cuban people celebrate this Thursday the 151st anniversary of the beginning of the struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule under the leadership of the Father of the Homeland, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.

In the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, the historic event will be commemorated with a political rally and military ceremony.

Likewise, students of the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School and cadets will be in charge of the honor guard before the tomb of the National Hero, José Martí and floral offerings will be placed .

At La Demajagua National Monument in the eastern province of Granma, where Céspedes began the anti-colonial feat and gave freedom to his slaves, Cubans of different generations will pay tribute to the Bayamese patrician, and the occasion will be propitious to deliver the cards to new militants of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Union of Young Communists.
