Havana, October 30 (RHC)-- The German airline Eurowings, belonging to the Lufthansa Group, will begin to operate flights to Cuba on November 2nd, sources of the Cuban Tourism Ministry said.

Eurowings will operate two weekly flights, Mondays and Fridays, from Germany's Cologne Bonn International Airport to the world-famous Varadero beach resort, located some140 kilometers east of Havana.

For the new route, Eurowings will use Airbus A330-200 aircraft with capacity for some 300 passengers.

With the new route, Eurowings joins another two German airlines, Condor and Air Berlin, which already operate flights to Cuba, at a time when Germany is becoming a major market of tourists to the Caribbean state.

Between January and September of this year, Cuba welcomed more than 15,000 German visitors, representing a 24 percent increase compared to the same period in 2014.
