Cuba Reports 15th Imported Case of Zika Virus

Havana, June 10 (RHC)-- Cuban health authorities have reported the 15th imported case of zika virus in the country.

The Health Ministry reported that the patient is a 67-year-old Cuban official, who arrived in the country on May 31st from the Venezuelan State of Caracas.

She was asymptomatic until June 4th, when she began to experience slight fever and rash on the forearms, abdomen and back, coupled with muscle and joint pain.

The patient was admitted at the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), where blood samples were taken for further study.

On Wednesday, June 8th, the IPK laboratory reported that the real-time blood test confirmed the patient was positive for Zika virus.

While the patient remains hospitalized, the health ministry said that she is in good general condition, showing only mild symptoms.
