National Assembly of People's Power at the Palace of the Conventions
The sessions of the National Assembly of People's Power and the 22nd Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty focused in Cuba the week that ends today.
The final session of the parliament of the year was also the closing of its IX legislature, with a full agenda with the approval of four important laws in line with the legislative reform that the country is undergoing.
It also included the approval of the Economy Plan for 2023, aimed at achieving greater effectiveness and speed in the development objectives; accountability of agencies and analysis of the most pressing problems of the nation, among other issues addressed by the legislators.
When giving an account before the plenary on his management at this stage, President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed in a self-critical manner his dissatisfaction for not having achieved all the objectives proposed by the Government, which was influenced both by the complex international situation and the U.S. blockade, as well as internal deficiencies that he called to overcome.
In that sense, he called to shake inertia, banish bureaucracy, eliminate obstacles and overcome complacency, in order to make accelerated and sustained progress in the consolidation of socialism in Cuba and to work with creativity and innovative spirit to promote the actions implemented for national development.
Among other projections for the new year, he highlighted the need to achieve a gradual but sustained increase in foreign currency income, which will help solve the macroeconomic imbalance that is expressed in inflation and shortages that affect the quality of life of the population.
Likewise, he defined as a priority for 2023 the continuation of the attention to vulnerable communities, the promotion of subsidies to individuals, with a non-assistance approach, among other measures, to promote social development.
As a culmination of the three days of work in the plenary session of the Parliament, an extraordinary session was held to celebrate the XVIII anniversary of the creation of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP).
In their speeches, the high-level representatives of the countries that make up this entity based on collaboration and solidarity reiterated the transcendence of ALBA-TCP and the importance of maintaining and strengthening its founding objectives in favor of the development of the peoples.
After the extraordinary session of the parliament, the summit of the ALBA-TCP Heads of State and Government met, who in the final declaration of the meeting ratified their commitment to strengthen this regional forum as an instrument of union among peoples, based on the principles of solidarity.
