The constitution of the Municipal Assemblies of the People's Power is associated in Cuba with acts of high political and social commitment, hence in some territories they decided to form them in sites of historical and allegorical interest.

And no wonder, because these government bodies at the grassroots should encourage the development of the area from a greater autonomy and breadth of its agenda, in line with the decentralization in Cuba of many functions.

The 168 recently integrated municipal assemblies are important in Cuba insofar as they represent the nucleus to which the constituency delegates elected in the country in November contribute.

It was an exercise in participatory democracy now crowned with the conjunction of the assemblies, in which the first major decision taken was to select the president and vice-president.

It is striking the election of 182 women to these positions, or 54 percent, higher than the indicator of the outgoing administration.

Cubans are very aware of the importance of the tasks of the municipal assemblies, since, among others, they supervise and control entities of municipal subordination and the organization of economic activities.

With the mission of exercising their mandate for a period of five years, the members of the governing bodies in the aforementioned grassroots instance assured to be faithful servants of the people and the community.

The residents of the neighborhoods and other settlements expect the same from their representatives, in whom they placed their trust because they are qualified to perform such an important task.

In any circumstance of the country, the delegates of the district nucleated in the municipality assume relevant occupations, but now it is decisive.

It is so because of the material limitations of the largest of the Antilles, due to the U.S. blockade and internal insufficiencies.

On the shoulders of these people falls the commitment to be aware of the problems and difficulties of the communities in order to find solutions and to find answers to many of them with the participation of the citizens themselves.

Together, delegates and residents must explore the potential of the territories in search of prosperity.
