Havana, September 19 (RHC) -- Dedicated to Vicente Revuelta, the Cuban capital will welcome theater experts and fans from ten countries October 19 through 27 to celebrate the most such important event in Cuba. The Havana Theater Festival is also scheduled to mark the 500th anniversary of the city which has hosted the event since 1980. The gathering’s main theme is Concept, Technique, and Direction.

The participation of groups from 10 countries representing different tendencies in the world scene is expected, including ensembles from Argentina, Germany, United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, Spain, Brazil, France, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Sweden. Honoring the legacy of renowned Cuban theater director and actor, the late Vicente Revuelta, the festival will also deal with experimental theater processes, figure animation, the risks taken today in bringing down artistic borders on the stage and other issues. The festival will have moments of luxury, such as the performance for the first time in Cuba of the Berliner Ensemble, a mythical German group which links Bertolt Brecht's legacy with Vicente Revuelta who introduced the famous German playwright’s heritage in Cuba.

A competition is also on the event’s agenda, as well as a theoretical segment, with tables on Revuelta’s work, panels on current theater trends in Latin America and Europe, lectures, such as the one by Peru’s Miguel Rubio, founding director of the group Yuyachkani, book launchings, photo, graphic and theater design exhibits and the screening of audiovisual materials on the performing arts. Workshops will be provided by the members of each invited groups, plus open dialogues with the public and critics at the end of the shows.
