Havana, June 28 (RHC)-- Cuba’s Acosta Danza dance company, directed by famed dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta, has just been awarded the 2020 National Dance Award for Best Independent Company, in the United Kingdom.

The Winners of the 2020 National Dance Awards were announced Sunday during a virtual ceremony held via YouTube, from The Cervantes Theatre in London.

Carlos Acosta is considered by many as the world's favorite dancer. He announced his return to stages in the United Kingdom, particularly Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre on August 3rd and 4th with the work ‘On Before’, an homage to his late mother and the most personal work he has ever created.

On Before embodies Carlos' astonishing dance vision and features collaborations with major UK and international dance makers, as well as Carlos’ own choreography.

Originally conceived in 2010, Carlos is revisiting this extraordinary show and returning to dance it again for a short regional tour as theatres across the UK re-open their doors again.

On Before sees Acosta perform both solo and with Laura Rodriguez, a founding member of his Cuban dance company Acosta Danza, which he founded in 2015.

About On Before, Carlos Acosta has said: “It is one of the most special shows I have ever created or danced and holds a place in my heart like no other. I have received incredible support from audiences and venues around the UK over many years and I know how difficult the past year has been for them and our whole sector. I am thrilled to be sharing this show that is personally so important to me with them in a shared act of resilience and optimism.”
