Ocean Sur presents ‘Antología General de Ernesto Che Guevara’

Havana, June 16 (RHC)-- Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel attended the presentation of the work ‘Antología General de Ernesto Che Guevara’, regarded as the largest, most complete collection of literary pieces by and about the legendary guerrilla commander.

Díaz-Canel was accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, also Rogelio Polanco, head of the Central Committee’s ideological department, other government and communist party officials, youth and workers’ leaders.

During the presentation, Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto Jiménez, president of Casa de las Américas spoke about the strong friendship that united Che and Cuban intellectual Roberto Fernández Retamar.

After Che’s murder, Retamar used to say ‘I miss Che every day.’

Abel Prieto mentioned also Cuban heroine Haydee Santamaría Cuadrado, the founder and first president of Casas de las Américas until her death in 1980.

Upon learning of Che’s murder in Bolivia on October 9th, 1967, Haydee wrote an imaginary letter to the legendary guerrilla commander. In it, she admitted that she had not cried that much since the assassination of revolutionary leader Frank País García on July 30th, 1957, in eastern Santiago de Cuba. Frank was one of the organizers of the uprising on November 30th, 1956 in support of the landing of the Granma yacht.

The materials compiled in the seven-part series were taken from the personal archives of Aleida March, the author of ‘Evocación. Mi vida al lado del Che.’

Also on hand were Cuban deputy prime minister Inés María Chapman, and the ministers of education, higher education and culture, Naima Trujillo Barreta, Walter Baluja García and Alpidio Alonso Grau, respectively, as well as Retired Army General Rogelio Acevedo González, who at the age of 16 joined the rebel army on the Sierra Maestra mountains as a member of the Ciro Redondo column, under Che Guevara’s command.

The books on the series deal each with a different subject, ranging from Che Guevara’s adolescence and early youth, to guerrilla struggle in Cuba, socialist transformation, Cuban solidarity and internationalism.

The seven-part anthology will be available at libraries, schools and universities across the country.

‘Antología General de Ernesto Che Guevara’ was released by Ocean Sur publishing house, which has published some 30 titles about Ernesto Guevara de la Serna –some of them translated into other languages.

The texts in each and every book are compiled in chronological order with travel maps, facsimiles, a selection of photos and the testimony of people, who worked on this compilation of works over a three-year period.
