Granma advances to Cuba's baseball finals

Sancti Spiritus, February 28 (RHC)-- The Alazanes de Granma defeated the Vegueros de Pinar del Río by knockout 13-3 and advanced to the final of the 60 Series of baseball in Cuba.

At the Jose Antonio Huelga Stadium in the city of Sancti Spiritus, the 'Alazanes' showed their offensive capacity and with 11 hits, including two doubles and an equal number of home runs, these by Alexquemer Sanchez and Guillermo Garcia, certified the success of starter Leandro Martinez.

The Granma left-hander did not start off effectively and in the first inning, he allowed two hits, but then he composed himself to blank his opponents in the next four innings.

Meanwhile, at bat, the 'Caballos' beat the right-handed Vladimir Baños, who exploded in the second act after withstanding four runs that would have been enough to clinch the victory for the 'orientales'.

However, the students of the experienced coach Carlos Martí were not satisfied and with a run in the fourth, a five-run cluster in the sixth, two in the seventh and another in the eighth, they certified their pass to the final of the tournament.

For the winners, right-hander Sanchez, who went 3-2, with a home run, three runs scored and two runs batted in, as well as starter Garcia, who finished with the same number of hits, runs scored and runs batted in. With its victory, Granma accesses for the third time to the discussion of the Cuban baseball title, in which it was crowned in the 2017 and 2018 versions, respectively.

On Sunday, the baseball postseason in Cuba continues when the teams of Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas resume their quarterfinal match at the Cándido González Stadium in the city of Camagüey.
