Havana, June 21 (RHC)--The New York Yankees are today the only team in Major League Baseball with 50 wins, after beating the Tampa Bay Rays four runs to two the day before.

Star Gerrit Cole went without a decision, but his 12 strikeouts, six of them in a row, with one run and one hit in seven and one-third innings led to the Big Apple's success.

He did not get the win because his reliever, Clay Holmes, squandered a 2×0 lead and ended up taking credit after the Yankees broke the two-score hug in the ninth inning on Aaron Hicks' triple.

After this smile, the New York ninth has now won 17 of its last 19 games, and its 50-17 start is the best in the Major Leagues since that recorded by the Seattle Mariners in 2001.

Meanwhile, Dominican slugger Oneil Cruz made a spectacular debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, batting 5-2, with two runs scored and four runs produced, in a 12×1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Cruz's at-bats were measured at 118.2, 112.9, 106.0 and 103.8 miles per hour, for an average of 105.2.

Meanwhile, Atlanta Braves defeated San Francisco Giants 2×1, Boston Red Sox 5×2 Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres 4×1 Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets 6×0 Miami Marlins.

In addition, the Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2×0, the Chicago White Sox 8×7 against the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals 6×2 against the Los Angeles Angels.
