President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee on visit to Cuba

Havana, July 28 (JIT) - The president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari Velazco, arrived in Havana on Wednesday with the aim of continuing the collaboration agreement signed with his Cuban counterpart during the First Junior Pan American Games of Cali 2021.

Upon his arrival at José Martí International Airport, he was received by his Cuban counterpart, Roberto León Richards, the president of Inder, Osvaldo Vento Montiller, and the director of international relations of the sports organization, Gisleydi Sosa.

In statements to the press, Manyari expressed that this working visit has the purpose of strengthening the relations between both National Olympic Committees and above all learning.

We will also proudly share the awarding of the Seventh Dan to Carlos Zegarra Presser, president of the Panamerican Judo Confederation, whom I am honored to call a friend and to be able to share this joy with the Cuban people, Manyari said.

Referring to the agreement signed with the Cuban Olympic Committee, he emphasized that it will serve to lay the new foundations for the development of Peruvian sport at the national level. He also considered it very important to be able to collaborate closely with the Cuban people, who have offered the greatest glories to the international Olympic movement.

Richards highlighted the brilliant result achieved in sport walking by Peruvian Kimberly García during the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon 2022, whose performance Manyari considered shared with Cuba, since the girl was discovered by one of the West Indian coaches present in the sister nation.

"The signing of the bilateral agreement last December, during the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games, served for the reopening of an agreement signed years ago and that now strengthens the work, which will be very positive for both parties," Richards pointed out.

Manyari will carry out a program of activities that includes conversations with the highest authorities of Cuban sport and tours of institutions in the sector, where he will learn about the development of high performance and work at the grassroots level.
