International Gymnastics Federation to cooperate with Cuba

Havana, August 4 (ACN) - The president of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Japanese Morinari Watanabe, expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Cuba, so that it can be placed at the highest world level in this sport.

Visiting this Caribbean nation until Friday, the executive highlighted the great history of success of Cuban gymnasts, hence his interest in the conditions of the national school and in supporting the development of this sport in the country.

Roberto León Richards, illustrious former gymnast and current president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, and Osvaldo Vento Montiller, head of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, commented to Watanabe on the recent qualification of Cubans for the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023 in rhythmic, artistic and trampoline gymnastics.

According to the institutional sports publication Jit, at the National Gymnastics School they exchanged about the possibilities of developing projects related to the acquisition of new equipment and the solution to the problem of the small boards.

Watanabe, who toured the facility, insisted on the willingness of the International Federation to support Cuba in the development of its young generations, with the purpose of the country obtaining praiseworthy results in the Olympic cycle of Los Angeles 2028.

The FIG president and member of the International Olympic Committee will hold official meetings with the highest authorities of the Cuban athletic movement and tour sports centers.
