Havana, October 13 (JIT) - Selecting the best athlete of the year 2022 will be a complicated task, considering the list of candidates revealed by World Athletics (WA), which includes Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas.

Ten queens of the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships have been included in the candidacy and all of them accumulate merits beyond that crown.

Among the nominees could not miss Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas, the triple jump showwoman, winner of the Wanda 2022 Diamond League and the world indoor title in Belgrade, where she set a new world record of 15.74 meters.

Peru's Kimberly García, the other Latin American in the list, dominated the 20 and 35 kilometer walks in Oregon, and added a bronze medal in the team competition.

Jamaica is almost never absent from such a list. Therefore, this time the sprinters Shelly-Ann Frasser Pryce and Shrericka Jackson appear with great options to win the distinction.

Frasser took the world throne in the 100 meters for the fifth time. She also clocked seven times under 10.70 seconds.

Shericka also had a dream season. In Oregon, she won the 200m title, a distance in which she also led the Diamond League. Her time of 21.45 seconds, which assured her world success, ranks as the second best of all time in that event.

Nigeria's Tobi Amusan "abused" her rivals in the 100m hurdles, to the point of taking the world record to 12.12 seconds. In addition to securing the precious gem on the circuit, her successes extended to the Commonwealth and African Games.

Another recent world record holder was the American Sydney McLaughlin, for whom the 400m hurdles are a perfect fit. This is confirmed by the extraordinary time of 50.68 seconds achieved in this period.

Also on the select list are American Chase Ealey (shot put), Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo (400 meters), Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (1500 meters) and Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh (high jump).

As has been customary for several campaigns, the voting process will have two different formats. For WA members it will be via email, while fans will be able to set their preference using social media.

Each nomination will be posted on WA's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube profiles. Each action of support will count as a valid vote.

The process is scheduled to close on October 31. The five finalists will then be announced. The winner of the prestigious award will not be announced until the annual gala, again in December in the Principality of Monaco.
