Havana, October 22 (RHC)-- Cuba defeated today the modest South African team, 9-0, in the final day of the consolation round of the IV Under-23 Baseball World Cup Taiwan 2022.

The offense of the Greater Antilles was mismatched in the opening chapter, due to the lack of speed of the opposing pitcher.

However, starting in the second inning they began to make adjustments and scored two runs, to which they added another four in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

For Cuba, the most outstanding players were Yuri Fernández, 4-3 with three runs scored; Dany Oramas, 4-3 with three RBIs and one run scored; Cristian Rodríguez, 2-2 with two RBIs and Ariel Díaz, 3-2 with one run scored.

On top of the box, Alexander Valiente, from Guantanamo, struck out four opponents and allowed an equal number of hits, but he did not score in four complete chapters of work.

Then, left-hander Oscar Hernández worked the fifth and sixth innings with just one hit and three strikeouts; and Alex Guerra closed with three strikeouts in the seventh.

Cuba must wait for the rest of the day's results to know its final place in this race.
