Baseball

The Cuban baseball team, U-15 category, which won the world title on Sunday in Mazatlan, Mexico, returned to Havana last night, according to local baseball authorities.

The team, which was led by Noel Guerra, defeated in the final for the gold medal to the United States 6-3, to give Cuba the world title in this sport that which was not enough in any category since 2005, when it triumphed in the 15-16 years worldwide modalities, also held in Mexico, and the adult category, in the Netherlands.

Volleyball

The sextets of Cuba and Venezuela started on the right foot their participation in the Pan-American Cup Senior Men, by beating to Puerto Rico and Canada, on Monday, respectively.

With this victory, Cuba took the lead in Group B, which on Wednesday faces the Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, Venezuela won in 4 sets to Canada its 1st victory in the Group C.

Chess

Cuba faces Georgia in the male and Algeria in the female branch during the penultimate round of the World Chess Olympiad taking place in Troms, Norway.

The men, marching in 21st place with 12 points, are aligned with the GMs Leinier Dominguez, Lázaro Bruzón, Isam Ortiz and newcomer Yuri González, while the women, located at position 43rd with 10 points, face Algeria with GMs Lisandra Ordaz, Yaniet Marrero, rookie Yanira Vigoa and veteran Maritza Arribas.

After 9 rounds, Cuban men filed 5 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses, with 16 games won, 15 draws and 5 missed, while the women showed 5 successes and 4 failures, with only 11 games won, 19 draws and 6 defeats.
