Real Madrid conquers Club World Cup in goal fest

By Orlando González Cruz.

Havana, February 12 (RHC)-- Real Madrid beat Al Hilal five goals to three on Satruday to win the Club World Cup in Morocco.

The "Merengues" took the field at the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat with all the signs of favorite and did not disappoint their supporters.

Brazilian Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring (13') and Uruguayan Federico Valverde followed suit (18') to make it 2-0, setting Madrid up for an easy challenge. The Saudi Arabian club had other plans and showed that it was no accident that they had reached the final, nor that they had left Brazil's Flamengo in their wake, scoring through Moussa Marega (26'). With a minimal advantage for the Spaniards, they went to the break.

In the second half, the Iberians came out to kill off the game and Karim Benzema, back in the starting lineup after missing the last two matches due to injury, scored the third (54') for Los Blancos, while Valverde scored his brace (58') and the fourth.

With the game seemingly settled, Argentine Luciano Vietto (63') gave Al Hilal fans hope, but Vinícius' goal (69') put things right.

The Arab side did not give up and once again Vietto (79') scored the third for their cause.

In the end, the scoreboard remained unchanged and the team from the Spanish capital added a new title to their trophy cabinet. The champions also offered an incentive for their fans, as Madrid is not going through a good moment in La Liga, where they are eight points behind their historical rival, FC Barcelona.
