Havana - A group of runners led by Roxana Gómez will represent Cuba this Saturday in the III Félix Sánchez Classic of Athletics in the Dominican Republic.

In addition to the Olympic finalist in Tokyo 2020, Lisneidy Veitía (400 meters), Daily Cooper (800), Yunisleidy García (100 and 200) and Yarima García (100 and 200), finalist in the last World Youth Championships, as confirmed by the Cuban Athletics Federation.

Shainer Reginfo (100 and 200), bronze medalist in the world youth championship, and Yoao Illas (400m hurdles) complete the representation of the island for a competition that bears the name of the legendary Dominican hurdler, double Olympic and world champion.

Reports from the venue point out that the call includes variations with respect to the official distances, as it includes 300 and 600 meter races, as well as a 300 meter hurdles race.

The organizers confirmed the presence of local stars such as the Tokyo 2020 Olympic runner-up in the 400 meters, Marileidy Paulino, along with Alexander Ogando and Fiordaliza Cofil.

The Paulino-Roxana duel would take place in the 300 meters, distance in which the hostess has a mark of 35.16 seconds since last March 17, the third best in the all-time ranking.

Roxana has not officially participated in this type of events during the beginning of the season, in which she has a time of 51.53 seconds as her best performance in the oval lap.

Athletes from 17 countries, among them the United States, Jamaica, Canada and Great Britain, will be among the participants of this one-day meeting, which will be broadcasted live on Panam Sports Channel.

"For us it is of great satisfaction to announce the third edition of the Classic, an effort we are making with the main objective of raising the level of athletics in the Dominican Republic. This is a way of demonstrating that our country has the conditions to hold sporting events of the highest level," Felix Sanchez himself told the press during the presentation of the event.
