Havana, May 24 (JIT) - The Cuban Wrestling Federation announced the Cuban teams for the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, scheduled from June 23 to July 8.

A total of 18 gladiators will seek to dominate this sport, one of the key in Cuba's aspirations to maintain the second place by nations.

The absence of four-time Olympic champion Mijaín López was confirmed, leaving the responsibility of reigning in the 130 kg to the also star Oscar Pino, several times world medalist.

This week Mijaín confirmed to the World Wrestling Union that he will seek his fifth Olympic title in Paris 2024, which has had notable repercussions.

In the Greco-Roman team to San Salvador shines Olympic champion Luis Orta, as well as world medalists Daniel Gregorich and Gabriel Rosillo, the latter back after a long period plagued by injuries and health problems.

In freestyle, experienced athletes such as Alejandro Valdés, Yurieski Torreblanca and Franklin Marén shine, while in women's freestyle the great figure is Pan American queen Milaymis de la Caridad Marín Potrillé. The retirement of Reineris Salas, world and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bronze medalist, has been confirmed.
