Havana, June 2 (RHC) - Three of the great glories of Cuban sport, Olympic champions Javier Sotomayor, Dayron Robles and Anier Garcia, will participate as special guests in the "Week of Athletics", an athletics competition scheduled for Monday in Moscow.

The three stars of the world sport, all retired, competed on several occasions in the former Soviet Union and Russia, and are greatly admired by fans.

Christened the "Prince of Heights," Soto already participated in a similar children's lid, in Moscow in 2017, in addition to competing in his golden age several times in Moscow and other cities of the extinct Soviet Union.

Among them, the best high jumper in history recalled the Friendship Youth Games in the former Leningrad, his first competition in Europe, in 1983, and the Friendship Games-84, in which he was crowned champion at just 16 years of age.

To give prestige to the meeting, the Russian organizers have announced that luxury guests will award prizes to the winners and are planning to run a symbolic 100-meter dash to delight the fans, the best high jumper in history told Radio Habana Cuba (www.radiohc.cu).

Taking advantage of the summer in Russia, part of the athletics competition will be held in downtown Moscow, precisely in the beautiful Nikolskaya Street, where there were massive celebrations during the 2018 World Cup.

Sotomayor and Robles, both still linked to Cuban athletics, in addition to becoming successful entrepreneurs in Cuba, will travel directly from the resort of Varadero to the Russian capital, while Anier will travel from India, where he works as a coach.
