Vegueros de Pinar continue with firm steps at the top of Cuban baseball

Havana, April 29 (ACN)-- The Vegueros of Pinar del Río defeated the Gallos of Sancti Spíritus 6-3 and won three games to two, their seventh consecutive private match in the National Baseball Series.

After beating Artemisa twice in the first weekend of competitions, Pinar defeated the teams of Industriales (3-2), Las Tunas (4-1), Santiago de Cuba (3-2), Camagüey ( 4-1), Holguín and Matanzas (4-1), a unique feat that keeps them in first position in the tournament (26-11).

On the most recent date they ensured success with five runs in the sixth inning, with the 13th home run by Yaser Julio González to equal the lead with Alfredo Despaigne from Granma.

Luis Pablo Acosta also stood out at bat with a double that brought two teammates home and Jorge Yoan Rojas went 2-for-4 with a double.

Branlis Rodríguez pitched 7.1 innings to take the win.

An attack of 16 hits was deployed by the Leñadores de Las Tunas to sign a super knockout in five innings against the Leopardos de Villa Clara, with a final score of 18-2, to settle in second place in the championship.

Roberto Baldoquín went 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs, Denis Peña went 2 for 2 with a tubey and three RBIs and Rafael Viñales went 3 for 4, also with a double.

Alejandro Meneses won his first game by walking the entire route with six hits allowed, one of them a solo home run by Leandro Turiño.

The Cazadores de Artemisa defeated the Alazanes de Granma 7-5 and dominated the individual duel to remain in the qualifying zone.

Dayron Díaz barely allowed one run in six innings and achieved his first victory in the National Series, supported by an offense that hit a dozen hits.

For the winners, Carlos de la Tejera (4-2) took the ball out of the park for the second day in a row and Yoelkis Baró (5-3) also disappeared it.

Osvaldo Abreu (5-2) and Leonardo Alarcón (2-2), the latter as a pinch-hitter and with two on board, scored home runs for the defeated Granma team.

Industriales also tipped the balance in their favor in the internal struggle, having Guantánamo with a final score of 8-4 and Camagüey, Cienfuegos' executioner 6-5 with a home run by Yordanis Samón.

With a cluster of 11 runs in the same first inning, the Holguín Cubs beat the Hurricanes of Mayabeque 12-3, and La Isla defeated Matanzas 10-9 with a golden hit from José Luis Bring at the end of the ninth inning.

Santiago de Cuba and Ciego de Ávila sealed due to darkness.

Pinar remains at the top with 26-11, followed by Las Tunas 21-11, Camagüey 21-16, and Santiago and Ciego de Avila 20-16, in the first positions.
