Havana, May 14 (RHC) - Cuba's Laurent Estrada debuted with a bronze medal at the Medellin 2025 Panam Aquatics Championships, which will run until May 25 in that Colombian city.
She clocked 2:22.30 minutes in the 200m backstroke, only surpassed by Ecuador's Maria Dani Contreras (2:19.03) and Dominican Elizabeth Jimenez (2.21.00).
Since May of last year Laurent had not swum this event and it was precisely when she achieved her most outstanding record, 2:18.68, during the Canet phase of the Mare Nostrum circuit.
Laurent is training for the Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025, scheduled for August 9 to 23. Since February she has been doing so in the Dominican Republic, where she has participated in two competitions with results in line with her stage of preparation.
Her compatriots Andrea Becali, who has been training since last November at the international center in Australia, and Vladimir Hernandez, who is training in the Cuban capital, will also take part in the youth festival in the Paraguayan capital.
