Taekwondo Holds the I Kukkiwon Cup in Cuba

Havana, June 4 (JIT) - Taekwondo practitioners in Cuba will meet from today until next Saturday at the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana (Havana Sports City Coliseum) to compete in the First Kukkiwon Cup.

This event, which will begin with a day dedicated to Poomsae, will bring together national athletes in various modalities.

The president of the Cuban Taekwondo Federation, Ivan Fernandez, said in a conversation with JIT that competitors will be able to participate both individually and in teams.

In addition, there will be strength, precision, speed and height breaking tests, along with demonstrations of traditional and creative poomsae, self-defense and group exhibitions.

The event will be attended by the South Korean ambassador to the island, Lee Ho Yul, and will include Kyorugi (combat) and Traditional Individual Poomsae tests, with categories for men and women, as well as Freestyle in mixed pairs.

In Kyorugi, participants will compete in the following divisions: children (11-12 years old), cadets (13-15 years old), juniors (16-18 years old), senior 1 (19-30 years old), and senior 2 (31 years old and older).

This tournament marks a milestone in the promotion of the discipline in Cuba, consolidating the growth and presence in a high-level competition.
