Apetura Tournament

Havana, Jun 22 (RHC) - With a home victory over Isla de la Juventud, three goals to one, at La Polar Stadium, Havana qualified for the final of the Apertura Tournament of the 108th National Soccer League.

The capital city team came back from Alexander Hernández's own goal in the 22nd minute with goals from Arnold Gutiérrez (43'), Alex Luis Sarmiento (50'), and Jean Carlos Iglesias (64').

The victory meant that Havana reached 24 points, surpassing Las Tunas and Cienfuegos, and will therefore face Guantánamo, leader of Group D.

The defeat left the Pineros with no chance of catching Artemisa in second place in Group A, so they will compete for a ticket to the Clausura against Villa Clara.

This final will take place on July 12, with a single match at the home of the Titanes, who have accumulated the most points in the tournament.

José Yulier Herranz, head of competitions for the Cuban National Football Commission, informed that the playoff matches between the second-place teams will begin on June 28.

On that day, Artemisa will host Expreso del Centro, and Santiago de Cuba will host Ciego de Ávila; these same teams will face each other on July 5 in return matches that will be held at the Camilo Cienfuegos Stadium in Zulueta and the Sergio Alonso Grandal Stadium in Morón.

The winners of both matches will advance to the Clausura Tournament of the 108th National Soccer League, which will determine the national champion in this sport.
