Havana, July 9 (RHC) Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic beat Italian Flavio Cobolli in four sets today in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season and the oldest tournament in the world.

Djokovic, 38, currently ranked number six in the world, won 6-7 (6/8), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 on the center court of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, showing a fine-tuned version of his legend.

The so-called Balkan Earthquake, who has 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, scored 13 aces and converted six of 12 break point opportunities to neutralize the 23-year-old Florentine, world number 24 and this year's champion in Bucharest and Hamburg.

With this win, Djokovic reached his 102nd victory at Wimbledon, a tournament he has won seven times, and continues in the race for his eighth crown on the London grass, which would put him level with Switzerland's Roger Federer.

In the only previous meeting between the two, the Serbian had also emerged victorious in the third round of last year's Shanghai Masters 1000.

Cobolli, one of the pleasant revelations of the tournament, had dropped just one set in the whole tournament, where he showed a growing maturity in his game, backed by a powerful forehand and remarkable mobility.

Djokovic, who also holds the all-time record of 428 weeks as world number one, will meet in the semifinals the current leader of the ranking, the Italian Jannik Sinner, who swept the American Ben Shelton today. The semifinal promises a vibrant duel between present and legend.
