Cuba vs Poland
Havana, July 18 (RHC) - The members of the men's volleyball team surprised the Poles, leaders of the FIVB world ranking, in front of more than 9,000 local fans at the Ergo Arena, winning 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 26-24) and securing their first victory over them since 2010.
The three points earned with the victory were crucial for the Cubans to remain in the qualifying zone for the final. They are seventh, with six wins and 18 points, and are only behind France (fifth) and Ukraine (sixth), due to their lower set ratio. Poland is fourth, with seven wins and 20 points.
Attacker Marlon Yant was once again a key player for Cuba, leading the team with 18 points (15 kills, two aces, one block), the most in the match. Opposite José Massó (15), attacker Miguel Ángel López (12), and middle blocker Javier Concepción (10) also reached double digits in scoring.
Poland scored 11 points (all on shots) from opposite player Kewin Sasak and 10 from attacker Tomasz Fornal, who recorded seven shots, two aces, and one block.
This Friday (10:30 a.m. Cuba time), the match schedule at Ergo Arena will have the Antilleans facing Olympic champions France.
