La Paz, February 11 (RHC) -- The number of people killed by landslides and flooding in Bolivia has climbed to 42, a top official said Monday.

Fifteen people went missing and 47,466 families were left homeless after torrential rains struck 119 of the South American country's 339 municipalities last week, Defense Minister Ruben Saavedra told reporters, adding that the worst-hit area was in Bolivia's central Cochabamba province.

Deputy Education Minister Juan Jose Quiroz announced Monday that classes continued to be suspended in 487 schools across the country.
